Cranberry-Pecan French Onion Green Beans

Fresh, hot green beans. Meaty pecans. Zesty cranberries. Fried onions. Secret sauce. Put them together and voilà! It’s a versatile side dish that’s both traditional and new—with a familiar flavor and innovative additions. All in no more than 20 minutes. The warm and nutty flavor of pecans balances out the tang of dried cranberries, and both are the sweet and decadent counterpart to the salty French onions and roasted green beans in our French Onion Green Beans Roast Kit.

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to broil on high for 10–15 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the green beans from the kit with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Spread the green beans in a single layer on a baking sheet or in a pre-greased casserole dish.
  3. Place the baking sheet or dish on the middle rack of the oven. Broil the green beans for 8–10 minutes, or until blistered and tender. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
  4. Remove the green beans from the oven and toss them with the French onion sauce included in the kit until evenly coated.
  5. Sprinkle the crispy fried onions, chopped pecans, and dried cranberries on top. Plate the green beans and serve immediately.

Fried Onion Frenzy

What is it about crispy fried French onions? Their golden color? Their caramelized crunch? Their airy yet savory flavor that’s tasty on just about anything? They immediately elevate a dish with added texture and flavor!

If you love the onions in our green bean kit, you can take it a step further! Try this favorite on more than just green beans:

Salad Topping: A sprinkling of crispy onions takes salads to the next level. Try them on our Steakhouse Wedge Chopped Salad Kit and you’ll see what we mean. They’re also great on Asian and Caesar salads

A Crispy Garnish for Soups: Add a handful of crispy onions on top of creamy soups instead of saltines or croutons for a more flavorful crunch.

On their own: We won’t tell anyone if you finish the bag. Eat them alone like chips, or place them in a bowl on a charcuterie board. Warning, they’re addictive.

On a burger: Packed between a patty and melty cheese, crispy onions offer delightful crunch and added flavor.

On macaroni and cheese: Skip the breadcrumbs and sprinkle crispy onions atop this creamy, cheesy pasta dish for a saltier, innovative flavor.

And yes…Green Bean Casserole: It’s said that the popularity of fried onions soared around 1955 when Campell’s Soup included them in their famous green bean casserole menu. Our French Onion Green Bean Roast Kit is a modern, much-faster version of this casserole. For both, though, the star of the show is the crispy French onions.
