Smoky Ranch Chicken Salad

Creamy Ranch and Smoky BBQ are two flavors that pair together like summertime and baseball. You’ll start this easy salad with the Smoky Ranch Chopped Salad kit—a foundation of green leaf lettuce, crunchy broccoli stalks, red & savoy cabbage, carrot, and green onion, which gets topped with cheddar cheese-dusted pretzel bits. Once that’s tossed together, you’ll simply add halved cherry tomatoes and a hearty spoonful of shredded BBQ chicken, then drizzle on the enclosed creamy Smoky Ranch Dressing. Make this for a family-friendly summer dinner, a side dish for watching a ball game, or a low-carb picnic.

Ingredients

1 Taylor Farms Smoky Ranch Chopped Salad Kit

1 cup sliced cherry tomatoes

1 cup pulled BBQ chicken

Directions

  1. If you don’t have leftover pulled BBQ chicken, you can prepare it fresh or purchase it packaged. To make it yourself, cook chicken breasts or thighs in your preferred BBQ sauce until fully cooked and tender (a slow cooker is great for this!). Then shred the chicken using forks.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, empty the contents of the Smoky Ranch Chopped Salad Kit.
  3. Add the sliced cherry tomatoes on top of the salad mix, and toss. Place the pulled BBQ chicken on top of the salad mix.
  4. Open the Smoky Ranch dressing packet included in the salad kit and drizzle it over the salad.
  5. Use tongs or salad servers to toss the salad, ensuring the dressing coats all the ingredients evenly.

Grape Tomatoes vs. Cherry Tomatoes: Are They Really That Different?

Grape tomatoes and cherry tomatoes might seem similar at first glance, but they each bring their own unique vibe to the kitchen table. Grape tomatoes are usually about 1 to 2 inches long, packing a sweet and intense flavor punch. They’re perfect for popping straight into your mouth or tossing into salads and pasta dishes where their firm texture holds up beautifully. On the other hand, cherry tomatoes are the round, slightly larger siblings, about 1 inch in diameter, with a juicy, slightly tangy bite. They both add a burst of freshness to any dish.

Texture-wise, grape tomatoes have a thicker skin and firmer flesh, making them ideal for skewering on kebabs or roasting in the oven. They keep their shape and add a robust flavor to sauces and stir-fries. Meanwhile, cherry tomatoes have a thinner skin and juicy insides that burst with flavor, perfect for snacking or tossing into dishes where their vibrant color and texture can really shine through. And both varieties come in different colors and sizes, giving you the option to create a colorful array of these juicy little round veggies (that are technically fruits — whoops).

So whether you’re sprinkling them on pizzas, mixing them into salads and pasta, or simply popping them in your mouth as a snack, these tiny tomatoes are sure to brighten up the colors and flavors on your plate!
